Battery Analogy

Battery Analogy
I often talk to clients about the “battery analogy”, understanding what drains us, what recharges us, and how to manage our energy with compassion rather than pressure. And, as always, I try to practice what I preach. Some weeks can be tough. As someone with AuDHD, I’ve recently been moving through a period of burnout and shutdown. My battery has been running low, and it’s taken honesty with myself to recognise it. 🔋 My draining activities: • The never-ending cycle of housework • Busy supermarkets and overstimulating environments • “Daily life admin” that demands constant executive function 🔌 My recharging activities: • My coaching work - holding space for others genuinely energises me • Creating meaningful, authentic connections • Self-care and quiet “me time” that gives my nervous system room to breathe. Using the battery analogy with clients recently reminded me that awareness isn’t enough; we have to act on it. So I’m slowing down, permitting myself to pause, and intentionally choosing activities that plug me back in. If you’re reading this and your battery feels low too, this is your reminder: You’re not failing. You’re depleted. And depletion can be restored. Take a moment today to notice what drains you, what refuels you, and what you need right now. We’re all allowed to recharge.
